Why I Started CR FIXIT – And the 5 Big Problems I'm Solving

Hi, I’m Chris – founder of CR FIXIT.

This isn’t just a handyman business. It’s a mission built from family, experience, and a whole lot of frustration with how hard it is to find someone trustworthy to do even the simplest of jobs.

My wife has worked in childcare for over 15 years – starting as a practitioner and working her way up to senior management in nurseries. Over the years, I’ve heard all the behind-the-scenes struggles she and her teams faced when it came to basic maintenance: broken gates that stayed broken for weeks, fencing that wasn’t safe for toddlers, jobs that were rushed or poorly finished, and tradespeople who just didn’t understand how important safety and reliability are in a childcare setting.

She’d often say, “If only we had someone we could rely on who understood nurseries – someone DBS-checked, respectful around children, and who actually turned up when they said they would.”

That stuck with me.

At the same time, we were experiencing similar issues at home as parents. Finding someone professional, safe, and family-friendly to carry out small but important jobs was next to impossible.

That’s when I realised there was a real gap – and I could fill it. So I launched CR FIXIT. A local handyman service focused not just on repairs, but on trust, safety, and service – especially for childcare settings and families. This is about doing things properly. No half-jobs, no disappearing after a deposit, and no cutting corners. Just honest, professional work with a focus on the people who matter most – our children.

3. No DBS Checks in Child Environments

Most handymen aren’t even aware of DBS checks. I am. I’ve had mine done, and I understand the safeguarding responsibilities of working in childcare settings.

4. Generic Repairs That Aren’t Child-Friendly
